Free city, war capital, divided city, open city, art capital. This story is a walk through time with the fashion of young Berlin designers seen through the naive eye of an American visiting Berlin for the first time. Much of what I saw in this historical place made me reflect about my own country's place in history.
Not much is left of the Berlin Wall even though it was made from very hard cement. The hated symbol was torn down rather quickly. The stretch that remains is called the East Side Gallery and is covered with a beautiful patina of graffiti -- on both sides now.
Berlin is an interesting study of one people who, separated for just 40 years, now struggle to understand each other. In a way it is a microcosm of our globalized world where different peoples are mixing together like never before.
